WHELCH INTERVIEWED.

George Wheich's first comment to me after the race was that he was disapppointed, but he recognised that the better man won. "I have lost my chance," he said. "I have been beaten fairly and squarely by a better man. Dick Arnst is so good that we don't know how far he will go. I doubt if there is a man in the world to-day who could extend him. I am disappointed, not so much over losing as because I did not row myself right out. It was impossible in the lumpy sea to get going', and up to the buoy I don't suppose I got in more than fifteen or twenty satisfactory strokes. I had to row short. On the home stretch I left that I was getting better results, and I got going, but when we reached the post I was fit to row another three miles. That was just what happened. . I don't want to offer excuses, but I know now I would have come nearer my true form in better water. No doubt it would be the same with Dick. The time was a long way slower than I have done over the course, though under very different conditions. I haven't any more to say, except to wish Dick Arnst the best of luck and every success in his career."
