At the first meeting of the new Hospital Board in Nelson, Mr H. Baigent, chairman of the former Board, was elected chairman.
Quartermaster-Sergeant G. H. Johnson, of the Ist Battalion, Nelson Infantry, has been awarded the long service medal of the Colonial auxiliary forces.
A Dunedin message reports that Mrs Robert Chapman, one of the earliest settlers, and mother-in-law of the Hon. J. R. Sinclair, is dead, aged 87.
The retiring members of the Victoria College Council, including .Mr A. T. Maginnity (Nelson), Education Boards' representative, have been reelected unopposed.
At .yesterday's meeting of the newly-elected Picton - Hospital arid Charitable Aid Board, Mr D'Arcy Chaytor, chairman of the old Board, was unanimously .^elected chairman.
The death occurred in the Picton Hospital yesterday morning of Miss Arline Stagg, eldest daughter of Mr Stagg, Waikawa Road. ..The deceased, who was a bright and lovable girl, twelve years of age, was taken to the hospital a fortnight ago, on account of an attack of pleurisy, from which she never recovered.
Mr Reakes, of the Midhirst (Taranaki) school, has been appointed master of Ihe Havelock Suburban school. Miss B. Stone, the late teacher, left on Wednesday for Wellington. She is to commence her duties at the Pahiatua High School on Monday next. On Wednesday her pupils at the Suburban school presented her with a beautiful silvertopped trinket box. Miss Cora Farnell, in making the presentation, wished Miss Stone every happiness in her new sphere.
