HAVELOCK.

[FKOM OUR CORRESPONDENT.]

Wednesday

Mr T. D. Taylor, editor of the Guardian, and his wife and two young children had an unpleasant experience yesterday afternon. They contemplated paying a visit to Mr North at Havelock Suburban, and were travelling in a gig; but Mr Taylor was unacquainted with the vagaries and eccentricities that the steed occasionally indulged in. They had several streams to cross, fairly full of water, and on such occasions the steed gave them a "taste of his quality," and when so minded appears to be .an expert with his heels, for he smashed the swingletree to matchwood and fairly drenched the occupants of the gig. Many were the congratulations when the party returned, although, not haying accomplished the object of their journey, with no more personal harm than being wet through. A thanksgiving social was held at the Methodist Church last night, and was well attended. A very good musical programme was gone through, at the conclusion of which the offerings of fruit, vegetables, etc., were sold.
