THE BARLEY MARKET.
XO THE EDIXOK
Sir,—Bef erring to my letter dated the Bth inst. re the barley market, I wish only to repeat that every statement made there is absolutely correct, so far as my firm's operations are concerned, and I care just as little a.s it is possible to care whether Mr Corrv believes it or not. 1 have no intention of replying m detail to Mr Corey's ill-tempered and childish effusion appearing in your paper of yesterday. I had no4ntention ot touching Mr Cony on a-sore place, but if I did so that is his look-out, and not mine. I may say 1 certainly do not intend accepting Mr Corry s fishing expedition to go into my various books. The information that might be gathered Mr Corry would probably consider very cheap at the cost of a "tenner." Having now made it public what my firm has done, and is still prepared to do, I might mention what I have not done. Ist I did not tell the brewers that they could get all the barley they required at 4s, because I knew-they could not. 2nd. I did not tell the farmers that their barley would not bring more than 3s 6d to 3s 9d, because I knew they would get more. 3rd. I did not inform the brewers or farmers that not one bushel of barley had been sold in Australia, because it would have been a lie. 4th. I did not enter into any arrangement with any firm or firms agreeing not to pay more than 4s 6d for 1910 barley, because 1 „, prepared t^g,"^^.
