It appears that Trengrove was casually employed as a laborer on the .railway, and for some time past had .-not lived happily, with his wife Be had been on $ d^Mgf' b, out's went home dnmkVon'#;turday night .and created a disturbance. The police -were sent for, but could no nothing in the matter. , Mrs Trengrove went to court ana instituted proceedings for a summary separation order. She informed her hushband of her intention, whereupon he became violent, picked up a x small tomahawk, and struck her a blow v/ith the edeg on the back ot the head. The woman was knocked down, but .a little later recovered sufficiently to run into the street, where she screamed "Murder!" . A constable was soon on the scene, and found Trengrove lying in the passage with his throat cut. Mrs Trengrove's condition is not serious.
