ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 9. At Addington to-day there was again a large entry of stock, especially of sheep, though not so large as last \yeek. The number of sheep of all classes yarded last week was 38,364. This was, however, not a record, as the entry of sheep on April Ist, 1908, was 40,617, and the following" week '40,409. There was, however, a very large yarding of store sheep, and more room was provided through the Saleyards Company having during the week temporarily divided some of the larger pens. Store sheep sold with practically no change in values. Fat lambs sold well, heavy weights being rather firmer. Fat cattle were easier, and pigs met with a dull sale. Fat sheep were firm. Store cattle were in improved demand, and dairy cows sold well.

The entry of store sheep was made up principally of wethers and ewes, lambs being in smaller proportion than of late. There was a very good demand, and prices showed little or no change. Two-tooth ewes made 12s to 16s 6d, four-tooth 14s lid to 15s lOd, four and six-tooths 11s 7d to 15s Bd, six and eight-tooths 13s 7d to 14s 9d, failing mouths 10s: wethers 7s Id to 14s, and lambs 7s 4d to 12s.

The yarding of fat lambs, totalling 8784, was not so large as last week, and they were of somewhat uneven quality. Many lots were not well drafted, as no doubt many farmers are anxious to sell as .feed is getting scarce and room is required for breeding ewes. There was a good demand throughout the sale, heavy-weight freezers and tegs meeting with keener competition, and were rather firmer in price, while other sorts sold well up to last week's rates. Tegs sold up to 16s 6d, ordinary-weight freezers 13s to 15s, and light and unfinished 11s to 12s 6d. About 8600 were taken for export. There was a fairly large yarding of fat sheep, the larger portion being ewes. There was a good demand throughout the sale, both for export

and for local consumption, and last week's rates were fully maintained, good wethers selling rather better. The range of prices was: Prime wethers 15s 6d to 19s, extra to 20s 6d, others 13s 7d to 15s; prime ewes 12s 6d to 14s lid, others 7s 9d to 12s. The entry of fat cattle totalled 353 head, the bulk being of moderate quality. The sale was a dull one, and prices .were easier by about 6d per 1001b. Steers made £6 to £9 17s 6d; heifers £5 5s to £8 2s 6d, and cows £4 17s 6d to £B—equal to 19s 6d to 22s 6d for prime, 18s 6d to 19s for medium, and 15s 6d to 18s for cow and inferior per 1001b. Veal calyes made 4s 6d to 535, according to size and quality. There was a fair yarding of store cattle, including a Southland consignment. There was an improved demand, and yearlings made 26s to 355, 15 to 18 months £2 Is 8d to £2 14s, 2-year steers £3 to £3 17s 6d, 2-year heifers £3 19s 6d, 2|-year steers £4 10s, 3-year steers £5 15s, 3-year heifer £4 10s to £4 13s, and dry cows £3 7s to £5 7s 6d. Dairy cows made £3 10s to £8.

There was a good entry of fat pigs, and they met with a dull demand at last week's rates. A large yarding of stores were difficult to sell. Heavy baconers made 40s to 455, smaller 35s to 39s—equal to 3|d to 3|d per lb; large porkers 31s to 345, smaller 26s to 30s—equal to 4£d to 4|d per lb; lar«e stores 27s to 325, medium 18s to 3J5s, small 14s to 17s. and weaners 4s 6d to 10s 6d.
