ROWING.
It will be good news to many followers of rowing. to hear that the Blenheim Senior fours were yesterday entered for the three-mile fouroared race to be rowed at Hobart under the auspices of the Tourists' Association there on February 23. At first some difficulty was experienced in ascertaining the date upon which the nominations close, two telegrams having to be sent to the secretary of the N.Z. A.R. Association before any satisfactory information could be gained on the matter.
The following telegram from Mr Bayfield to Mr Draper speaks'for itself :—
"Council has nominated New Zealand representatives. Does not accept entries. > Stop pending consideration recent irregularity. Cannot advise you further."
This evidently means that the Council does not desire that the Blenheim crew should be sent, and that only one crew should go from New Zealand. It does not, however, imply that crews outside the champions are not at liberty to go. The necessary arrangements for the departure of the crew are being completed,'and it is, hoped that they will leave here in about ten or twelver days' time. Arthur Jackson, stroke of the Blenheim crew, returned to town this morning for the purpose of training for the Hobart regatta. In the course of a conversation with a representative of this journal he said it was his intention to go in for sculling, and while in Australia he would order a boat from George Towns. He will probably be found competing for championship honors at the next regatta.
