y Th> L^idon "New:.- Zealand Timesv writing on- No^ vember 26, said: The Honv Mr HallJones was sufficiently recovered from his recent illness to go this week from London to his native Folkestone, where he .will stay to recuperate. Mrs Hall-Jones has accompanied her husband to the seaside.
Dr Holbeck, the Anglican Bishop or St. Helena, is probably the most poorly-paid bishop in the world. His salary is £200 a year. At one time he was Archdeacon of Kimberley, and in receipt of £1000 a year. Then he moved -to Bloemfontein, when his income dropped to £600. And now, in St. Helena, he has to be content with a third of that sum. /The Jordan Accommodation House was the scene of a pleasing little function on the occasion of the farewell of Mr and Mrs J. W. Cummings, the well-known proprietors, who have conducted this useful house so satisfactorily during the past fifteen years: and where, by their civility and attention to travellers, they have won the general good feeling which prevails towards them. This was duly vouched for in a neat little speech by Mr Frank Willis, who, on behalf of the local settlers, handed to, the popular host and hostess a servicable travelling-rug as a small memento of the esteem in.which they are held. The presentation was accompanied by hearty good wishes from many friends for the future success of the recipients at the new homestead, "Glen Orkney," part of Weld's Hill estate, where the family will reside, and the capable energy of Mr Cummings will be devoted to sheep-farming. The presentation was suitably acknowledged by Mr Gummings, after which a hearty welcome was extended to the new proprietor (Mr W. J. Harvey). The usual toasts were then honoured, and the gathering dispersed after sinking "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow. '~
