Provided' sufficient support was forthcoming, it waa proposed, in the first instance, to Establish and maintain communication between Fiji and the following places: Samarai or Port Moresby,' Papuathe New Hebrides; the- Solomon Is-. lands; Ocean Island, Tonga: Rarotpnga; Tahiti; Pleasant Island; and kamoa. A local service was proposed for the Society and Marquesas Islands. The capital outlay for the scheme was estimated at' between £60,000 and £70,000, whilst the annual cost of upkeep would amount-to over £20,000. The* cost of operating a small v/ireless station is found to f c about £4 per day, varying according to the r umber of messages transmit- | tod.
