AUCKLAND, Jan. 4. In the' chess tourney Barnes and Grierson still lead with one loss each Mason being next with two. ' The eighth round of the chess championship was concluded this morning. Grierson is now ono game ahead for the championship. Grierson beat Rutherford, and James drew with Sainsbury. The game Mason v. Davies was adjourned.
