STEAMERS IN COLLISION.

ONE VESSEL SENT TO THE

BOTTOM

12 LASCARS DROWNED

[press association.] (Received Jan. 3, 9.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 3. During a dense fog yesterday the Ellerman liner Arcadian, bound from London to Glasgow and Basra, collided with the Houlder liner Ayrshire, from Manchester to Durban and Australia, off Tuscar Rock, Ireland. The Arcadian foundered in three minutes. Of her crew of 52 lascars, 12 who went below to secure their money prished; the remainder were picked up by the Ayrshire. The latter received a crashing blow forward, and commenced to fill. She was towed with her 200 passengers to a harbour of refuge at Hqlyhead, where she was safely beached. The passengers behaved well; there was no panic. The Ayrshire's No. 1 hold is flooded.
