OTTAWA, Dec. 31: At a recent conference of representatives of shipping companies engaged. in the North Atlantic freight traffic between Britain arid Canada it was decided to increase the west-bound -transport charges by. 25 per cent. Tie Ottawa Board of Trade has entered a.protest against this proposal, and is inviting all Canadian shipping companies to : resist the increase, irlueh, it is urged, will tend to divert business, to United States factories and nullify -Che-benefits of 'British preference. '

The Dominion Government is to be asked Ho co-operate with the various Boards .of Trade in 'Canada in the matter.
