A PLOT FRUSTRATED.
PBISONERS' PLAN UPSET,
INTENDED TO OVERPOWER WARDERS.
[PKE3S ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 31. Joseph. Johnson and Thomas John Lewis, habitual offenders serving a sentence -in Mount Eden gaol, were charged; to-day with having attempted'to break gaol. They had a fcrace aiid several bits in their poseesion, which had probably been made in the blaeksmiWs shop .for the gaol, » *fefe, saw and knife-blades, paint and a key. When their cells, were examined on Christmas morning it >vas found that holes had been bored |n the doors of the cells with the,, indent of removing the locks. Ihe prisoners' intention was to open their cells, and then with the key, let loose as many prisoners as possible, and then overpower the night warders; but the discovery of the holes upset ±.h» plot.
