WAIRAU A v. WAIRAU B.

,The settlor'cup fixture, commence! between the Wairau A and L team at the beginning of the season wa continued on. Saturday last on th< Jtoeal ground. The B team, with on< i wicket to fall to complete their hrsi innings, played on, Edinger and Shep pard being the two batsmen upor whom the, supporters of the B tean relied to pull the match out of tht fire. Their hopes, however, were noi realised, for after scoring thret singles and a twoer, Edinger wa* ; caught by Holcroft off Tyler and the innings closed for a total of 85 runs, of which Armstrong was the chief contributor with 25 runs, Mos;ridge and Church being the next highest scorers with 17 and 15 runs respectively. With a lead of 44 runs on the first innings the A team went to the wickets, Pearpoint and Mills opening io the bowling of Church arid Hylton. It soon became apparent that the wicket was greatly in the batsmen a favour, and the fielders were given some leather hunting with a Vengeance, 92 runs being registered before Pearpoint succumbed to a tricky ball .from Esson. Mills, who had a life in the early part of his innings played on, and compiled 90 runs before lie fell a victim to a «urly ball sent down by Church. The second wicket fell for 153, and the third for 159, the fourth for 166, the fifth for 177, the sixth for 184, th© -eighth for 230, and the tenth for 245. The B's went in again, but were unable to finish their innings owing to the time limit, and when stumps were drawn they had lost four wickets, for a total of 80 runs, which, were contributed as follows; Esson 13, Armstrong 22, Hylton 12, Wedde 5.
