CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 6. : At the Addington live stock market, to-day there were moderate entries of stock, and a good attendance. There was an improved demand for store sheep, especially hoggets; fat kmbs sold well, and fat sheep opened at an advance in consequence of a small entry, but prices afterwards fell away to last week's level. Fat cattle were easier, and store cattle and "pigs sold well. ■ ' .

The yarding of store sheep was larger than of late, and was inside up principally of hoggetSi most of which were medium and inferior sorts, and. nearly all wethers. There was a good demand for all classes, and prices showed an advance of 9d to Is per head. All lots changed Tiands with the exception of a line of 450 halfbred wether hoggets, which were passed at 10s 7d. There were only two pens of ewe hoggets, one of which was halfbreds that had been shorn as lambs. Crossbred hoggets of mixed sexes and good quality made, I4s 9d to losr Id;, half bred ewe hoggets (small/and shorn) 13s 3d; wether:^ hoggets, llsi to=/Us :9«Lj ; fair crossbreds,ewe hoggets, |4s 3d| cull half bred-wether hoggets 8s- 6d. Forward wethers made 16s 2d; aged crossbred ewes with lambs Bs. 4d, all counted, and aged merino ewes in lamb 8s 4d.

There were 239 fat lambs penned, and they sold well, the average prices being 144 to 15s 6d; best lambs 14s 6d to 17s 3dj arid lighter lls Id to 14s. The yarding of fat sheep was smaller than last week, and was of good average quality, and included a larger proportion of- merino wethers than usual. The market opened at an advance, but as it was found that there was sufficient for butchers' requirements prices fell back to, last week's level. A few-heavy-weight shorn sheep were sent in, these being the first this season. The range of prices was: Prime wethers 19s to 225, lighter 16s 8d to 18s 7d, ewes 14s 8d to 17s 4d, hoggets 12s lid to 15s Id; merino wethers 12s 3d to 17s, merino ewes 10s 6d to 12s 2d.

There were, 224 head of fat cattle yarded, the bulk being good- to grime-quality steers. The sale was rather a dull one, arid values showed a decline of about 6d per 1001b. Steers made £7 2s 6d to''£lo 7s 6d; heifers £5 7s 6d to £9 2s 6d, and cows £4 17s 6d to £7 17s 6d—equal to 20s to ;/ 22s for prime, 18s to 19s 6d for medium, and 17s to 17s ,6d for cow and inferior beef per 100 lbs. There was a full yarding of veal calves, and they sold - ; at 4s 6d to 50s, and a few extra up to £3;175. Store cattle were in good demand, and sold at an advance of 10s to 15s per head, as compared with the previous week. Yearlings made 355, fifteen- to eighteen-months £2 10s, twoyear steers £3 10s to £3 17s, two-year heifers £3 to £3 ss, three-year steers £5 5s to £6 ss, three-year heifers- £4 17s 6d, and dry cows 20s to £3 16s. Dairy cows, which were mostly poor sorts, sold at 20s to £7 15s.

There was a short yarding of pigs, and in consequence there was a better sale than last week. Choppers sold up to £4 ss, heavy baconers 55s to 60s, lighter: 47s 6d to 52s 6d—equal ■to 4£d to 5d per lb; heavy "porkers 37s 6d to 455, lighter 32s 6d to 37s— equal to s£d per lb. Stores sold well, large sorts realising 30s to 365, smaller 22s to 28s; large weaners 15s to 20s 6d, and small 10s to 12s 6d.
