The weather was sunny and the •wicket easy. Whitty hitting out added 19, while Macalister put on 10 and the second wicket fell for 127, Relf dismissing Whitty with a good catch .at long-off. The third wicket went 9 runs later, when Macalister, who had played a faultless innings of two hours and had "hit 8 fourers, was clean bowled by Douglas.—Four, for 147. Gregory " succumbed to one or Douglas's yorkers after making two.— Five for 151. Ransford was brilliantly caught low down in the second slip, and Noble was snapped up in the slip. The -eighth wicket fell with the score at Armstrong stayed 45 minutes, but lost his wicket through playing back. —Nine for 182. . South of England scored 132 in their second venture.. Armstrong's bowling was "the feature of England's second innings, the player capturing 6 wickets for 44 runs. The batting opened steady, the first wicket falling for\33. Vine played nice cricket and batted for 65 minutes. When he left four wickets were down for 69, the second having fallen for 48 and the third for 63.
