Veo-ily, owing to; the keem competi-J tion, at present efeting between, the various cycle, firms k: Blenheim, cyclists are on a far'better purchasing footing iai this towih. than' in> most other parts, of the Dominion. Messrs Wintrmgham and j Deugaa'de, ; .'un-. doubtedly the most progressive firm Mr this line of; business in Maiiiborough, are to the for©1 again with a fresh lot of good and cheap second-hand cycles. As we stated some, little time back, this firm make a rule of aiever selling <a secondhand "cycle until they have thoroughly ov.ea-hauled it, and stoveenamelled it so that to all intents and purposes it is raraetioally as good, as new. They ( (nave just treaifced (the fresh lot 'in this maoiaieir, and ©re now offering them at prices ranging" from £4 10s to £8 10s, according to make, age and wearing quality of the bicycle. In sundries they will also be found the cheapest firm to deal with; for instance, they offer a really good acetylene lamp for 4s 6d, and oil lamps froiH 2s upwards. The difference between a good sheep dog and one that has not served a reliable apprenticeship, and the value of sheep-dog trials anu training, were referred to by Mr J. Crawford Anderson (Balclutha) in a speech at a gathering, of stockmen and farmers ai Gore. Mr Anderson stated that since trials had been initiated, the sheep dogs had improved out of all knowledge, and he went on to illustrate his^oint. '"When sheep are being drafted at the freezing works,' 5 he said, "we know that on arrivaL there rejects are made—bruiseu sheep—in other words., W.h,at is the cause? A. lot of 'bulldogs' which handle the sheep roughly when they don't come up fasti enough. .These rejects mean Id or l^d per lb loss to the farmer. Sheep breeders should' support dog trials, which mean money. It often astonishes me that the man with a large hold in the country will not lend assistance in bringing our collie dogs to, a state of efficiency."
