ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

BLENHEIM v. MARSHLANDS

A game of Association football was played at the Domain on Saturday afternoon between teams representing Marshlands and Blenheim. The local team won by 4 goals to 1, but the game was more even than the score denotes. The first spell was closely contested; each side had chances of scoring, but the defence was very sound. A noticeable fault was the shooting. The forwards on each side were fast, but they were not quick enough when playing the ball. Tho local halves showed much improvement as the game proceeded, Silver in particular showing to advantage. The second spell was in favour of the local team, the visitors being apparently out of form. Teuton came up forward and strengthened the local vanguard. Early in the spell Teuton converted a penalty kick into a goal, and he scored again shortly after. The visitors made two or three dashes through the local defence, and on one occasion were rewarded by scoring. The local halves then set their forwards going, and after some god combined play, Bonsall scored a pretty goal. Again the visitors broke through Blenheim's defence, but the shooting was not good. Whitling and Watson played well together. Just on the call of time Silver converted a free kick into a goal for Blenheim. A little more condition and a better goal-keeper in the Marshlands team would make a big difference in their play. Besides those mentioned, Stamp and Bowman in the backs and Teuton and Bonsall in the forwards played well; whilst for the visitors Masters defended very well, and was ably supported by MeIntyre. Whitling played a dashing game all through, and Watson also showed to advantage in attack.
