[press association.] (Received April 28, 9.37 p.m.) CONSTANTINOPLE, April 28. At a secret sitting of the Assembly a fetwa, or written legal decision, countersigned by the Sheik-ul-Islam, was read, replying to the question whether a person guilty of tampering with £he sacred writings and responsible -for the shedding of innocents' Wood arid squandering the wealth of the country could retain the Caliphate. The fetwa answered no, he must be dethroned or abdicate. The Assembly immediately shouted •"Dethrone him!"
Two Senators and two Deputies [proceeded to Yildiz. When they had delivered their message Abdul Hamid answered "I expected this. My onlywish is that the lives of myself and my family be safeguarded, and that I be allowed to reside in the Techiraghan palace, as I wish to die where I was born." Shevket Pasha announces that tne great barracks of Pera will be razed to the ground. Shevket was offered the Grand Viziership, but refused it, to prevent the belief that he was seeking his own advancement.
