A Thames telegram reports the death of Mr Geo. S. Clark, a welli known mine-manager. The deceased landed in: Dunedin in 1867, and a tew years later went to .Thames to assist ! several governing bodies. ! A correspondent informs us that ' on Thursday, April 22nd, a social was held at Bartlett's Creek, when about .35 relations and friends met to celebrate Mis T. Bartlett's 76th-birth-i day. On arriving the guests all met 'with a cordial welcome from Mr and Mrs J. H. Bartlett arid Mrs Bartlett, sen. The tables were laid out with all kinds^of confectionery and eatables, to which ample justice was done by all present, and great praise was given Mrs J. Bartlett for her ' excellent work in preparing everything. After a sumptuous repast the tables were cleared, and dancing com- ■ menced, excellent music being pro- ! vided by Messrs E. Bartlett, E. Lane i and H. Lovell. Songs were sung at 1 intervals by Messrs Bradmore, J. : Jones, J. Woodhouse, the Bartlett : Brothers, and Lovell, sen., not forgetting Mrs Bartlett, sen., who sang "The Woodpecker Tapping on the Tree." During the evening tea and | cakes were handed round by the ; ladies. Owing to a heavy downpour !of rain the social was kept up until j daylight, and all had to prolong the hospitality of Mr and Mrs J. Barti l.ett, all present enjoying themselves ito the utmost. At about 6 a.m; tne visitors dispersed in a drenching rain. parting all wished Mrs Bartlett,. sen., that she .might be spared to see many more birthdays and socials.
