SHUNTER'S NARROW ESCAPE.

CHRISTCHURCH, April 23. A serious accident was narrowly averted at Lyttelton yesterday, when a man named Dobson, a shunter, slipped while boarding the .cowcatcher of an engine in motion. Hisc left leg was dragged under the cowcatcher, but he managed to catch, hold of the cow-catcher and support himself. He was carried some distance before he could drag himself clear. The muscles of his thighs were squeezed and badly bruised.
