OTTAWA, April 22. Midway between East and West Haycock Islands, which are only^ five miles apart, the cruiser Kestrel seized the American schooner Charles Levi Woodbury, fisliing for halibut,' : on the ground that she was trespassing.

Three rounds were fired for the purpose of scaring the vessel; the fourth ripped the mainsail before theschooner surrendered.
