TO KEEP AUSTRALIA SAFE.
t:he destroyer flotilla
ViEWS OT ADMIRAL POORE
■■■> '(Received April 24, 10.20 a.mt) > SYDNEY, April 24. 'Speaking 'before 'Si 'George's 'Society last night, Admiral Poore said that 'he had come to the conclusion, on account of many reasons, that a rftdtiHa of destroyers would be of tremendous advantage to Australia, not <xrily lor their actual, fighting value "but for their moraf effect if, in case of Tvar, the Imperial squadron had to "be withdrawn. He, however, advocated Imperial control, for he regarded -dual control as dangerous. Xiord . Dudley re-echoed the Admiral's views. He said he did not believe that tney would ever induce •fhe country to give an adequate monetary- contribution to the Imperial Navy. The present amount r/as a mere drop in the 'budket. It would be necessary to give two or three millions, and Australia was not likely to be able to give that sum without obtaining what was impossible, a voice in-, the management or control of the policy. He believed that they would get far more from this country in the way of sliips1 and men.
