POLICE JUST FAIL TO CATCH HTM.
[PBESS ASSOCIATION.]
CHRISTCHTTRCH, April 34. A number of cancelled bank-notes have been put in circulation/ The work has been carried out skilfully, and the notes are difficult to detect except when held up to the light. The police obtained a clue, and traced the suspected man to a, private hotel ■; but he had left just a minute or : two before, not even waiting for his 'hat. A search of his room was most fruitful. His portmanteau contained a .'bundle, of forged notes and an, outfit for gumming on a paper disc at the back of the note to cover the punchhole,, ffnd for shading and filling up the blank section.
