HAVELOCK.

Wednesday

The harvest festivals in connection with the Methodist Church were held at Okaramio and Mahakipawa on Sunday, the 21st, and Havelock on the 2Sth. The churches were tastefully decorated, fruit and vegetables being sent by members of the congregation. Appropriate sermons were preached at each of the services by the Rev. G. Pittendreigh, which were well ettended.

Socials were held at Okaramio on the 22_nd and at Mahakipawa on the 23rd, in connection with the abovenamed church. Musical items and games were enjoyed, and at the conclusion of each entertainment a sale of produce took place. On Monday night, at the Methodist Church, a very successful concert was given by member® of the church and friends. The first part of the programme consisted of musical items rendered by the following:—Mr® Williams, Misses Walker and Congdon, Messrs Pittendreigh, Baggott and McQueen. In the second part of the programme a most amusing farce was staged, entitled "The Haunted Room." The characters were ably taken by Misses L. Reader, M. Walker, A. Wells and M. Hale, Messrs V. Twidle, G. Pittendreigh, Vickerstaffe, W. Glover and L. Walker. At the conclusion of the entertainment a. sale of fruit and vegetables took place, causing a great deal of amusement amongst the buyers. Mr Roland Powell leaves to-day for Pelmerston North to see his brother, who is in tKe hospital there. A telegram received to-day states that he is progressing satisfactorily after his laite bic5 rcle accident.

Mr W. C. Smith on Monday received the sad news of the death of his father, which took place, at Ashburton on Sunday. The funeral takes place to-day, and the- local school, of which Mr Smith is headmaster, will therefore be closed.

Mrs H. Pickering (Wanganui) is visiting Mrs W. Pickering. Messrs' H. and E. Smith left for Wellington to-day.
