ST. GEORGE'S SOCIETY.

GENERAL MEETING.

A general meeting of the Marlborough branch of the Royal Society of St. George was held in the Koyal Hotel last evening, Mr G. H. Bott (vice-president) occupying the chair. Messrs H. J. Sainsbury and A. J. Bailey were elected members of the Society, and six gentlemen jverenominated for membership. The programme for the forth earning: sports was discussed, and two new* races—a Footballers' Race (150 yards) and a Members' Race (75 yards) were added. The former takes the place of the youths' half-mile, and" any subscribing member of a club affiliated' with the Marlborough Rugby Union i& eligible to compete. The conditions of the Members' Race provide that members of the Society who are entered for open events shall not participate, and that no competitor shall run in. racing shoes or costume. Mr 6. .T. Checsman donated the first prize for the Footballers' Race, £2 2s (instead' of allotting'the amount to tho competitor gaining most points in,running, events) and Mr G. H. Bott gave £lr Is as second prize.

Messrs J. Nicholas, jun., F. W... Dcdson, F. C. Ferry, H. Mclntash, J. L. Lord and T. F. Bull were appointed a committee to make arrangements in connection with the social, which is to be held in the evening after thesports.

SPORTS COMMITTEE

A meeting of the Sports Gc-mmit-i tee was held after the general laeet-; ing, all the members being present. A long discussion took place regarding the site on which the sports should be held, and it was eventually' decided.to adjourn the meeting until next Monday night, when the final decision will be made.
