TAIHAPE, March 2. M? most destructive fire last evening destroyed the whole block fronting Mara and Station Streets. Thirteen 'business premises were gutted. -The fire started in Whaler Bros.' 'boot shop, and spread rapidly to other ■.premises. The places bufred include of McPherson (tailor), Nichol {"(jeweller), Finch (stationer), the ILabour Department's office, J. f- Aldriidge (insurance agent), the Hautanu tea-rooms, Whitcombe (dentist),/ Ellis and. Parvill (universal providers), Whone; Kee (fruiterer), Jones (painter), Hodgson (plumber), Garver (seed merchant). The police sergeant's residence and shops on the opposite side were saved only after strenuous exertion. The progress of the fire was stopped fey pulling down buildings.
