In connection with the disturbances In the northern . islands of the Cook group, for tne settlement of which it is suggested that a British warship should convey the Resident. Commissioner onia visit of investigation, news just received ' states that on July 1 rebellious natives at Rakahanga hauled down the British flag, turned the Island Council from office, appointed their ringleader, a former teacher m the London Missionary Society, Governor, and also appointed thenown Judges and police, fined those opposed to' them, and closed European traders' stores till August 10. The Federal Council of the Cook Islands forward a resolution objecting to representation in the New Zealand Parliament by a member for the group, and urging that the islands are a self-governing community under the British Crown, since' they are included in the Dominion for Imperial purposes only. .
