When in Wellington call and se» aur new shop and , icture gallery. THE IMPERIAL CAMERA Company, , | WILLIS ST., WELLINGTON. y t . ~ A Here, as before, the sheet anchor oi treatment is the food and the regulation of the habits of the body ai large. ANOTHER EXAMPLE. We find another example in the treatment of that common complaint ansemia or bloodlessness, an ailment only too frequently . represented amongst girls and women of the working classes. So long as they will persist in consuming large quantities of tea without having a .sufficiency of nourishing food = jas,,,well, .anaemia is certain to be represented in a their •cashes. Plenty of fresh air, a moderate amount of exercise, a little flesh food daily, the attention to the state of the bowels serve to cause the bloodless condition to be exchanged to the healthy staie. Iron is the great remedy for an£emia ? because iron is itself a natural constituent of the blood, and where a deficiency of this mineral is found owing to proper food not having been taken, the bloodless condition is certain to be developed. With regard to the' right and the wrong ways of taking medicine we find illustrated in the case of ansemia an excellent lesson in the proper us© of a drug. Crude preparations of . iron blacken the teeth^and cause constipation . Again where pills, are taken, as they so frequently are, for this complaint, they very often fail in their action through the iron they contain not being properly absorbed into the blood. We should select for the treatment of bloodless people an iron preparation such as is pleasant to take', is readily digested and will not injure the teeth. Lately I have discovered such a preparation in the form af Athenstaedt's Aromatic Tincture of Iron, the dose of which varies for adults from one to, two dessertspoonfuls, taken afte^meals. Preparations of this kind-do away witE the objection which many people entertain to the use of iron, and place at their service a remedy which is calculated to act efficiently in restoring the blood to its natural state. It need hardly be said as a last caution that all drugs taken to produce sleep must be very cautiously handled. Indeed, when sleeplessness attacks us we ought t<> endeavour ±o> correct that condition by taking exercise before bedtime, and by also noting what a little light supper may do to induce repose. Nothing is more terrible in the way of abuse of drugs than to find people night in and night out dosing themselves with dangerous drugs to induce sleep, the quantity of any drug thus used having to be gradually increased in order to produce the desired result, and this last in itself constitutes the greatest danger of all. Does his food do him all the. good it ought?
