EVENING SITTING.
The Council resumed at 9 p.m., and adjourned until 10.45, when *^6 Appropriation Bill was received from the House and put through all stages without amendment. EULOGISMI3. The Hon. Mr JENKINSON eulogised the Government over the appointment of Mr Hall-Jones to the High Commissionership, and congratulated the people on having secured such a worthy representative. Mr Jenkinson went on to compliment the Attorney-General on the way he had discharged his duties. He con-j sidered it was time that more assistance was granted to the Council,, as the work which fell on the representative of the Government in the Chamber was too much for one Minister to do, and the skill and ability Dr. Findlay had shown was in the discharge of a superhuman task. Mr Jenkinson went on to say that the work transacted this session would be a credit to any Labor Government, and the people must admit that they had received every consideration ; but in spite of this Sir Joseph Ward, was getting abused by a sectionof the Labor Tari^& . ! ("MB The Mon. x.xr McCARDLE said that never in the History of New Zealand had a Government made such a "bona fide attempt to grapple with the needs of back-blocks settlers in regard to roads and, bridges j and he desired to express his gratification to the Government on behalf of the settlers. The Hon. Mr LOUISSON endorsed Mr Jenkinson's remarks. The ATTORNEY-GENERAL briefly returned thanks for the expressions of Councillors. V - ' The Council rose at 11.50/ and the session terminated. '
