Other starters were Five Crown and Cross Battery. Five Crown got away, followed by Cross Battery. The latter took charge passing the stand, where the pace was very slow. Peru joined the leaders at the half-mile, and entered the straight six lengths ahead of Lord Nolan. Peru from this out had everything; his own way, and won by four lengths, fifteen lengths between second and third.
