Monday. On Thursday evening Mr Thomas •Flower, who was bush-felling up Mutton town Creek, along with his son, Frank, met with a painful accident while backing a tree to send a drive. The driving tree being a little; too close to" the main body of the drive, struck the nearer trees, and rolled off the stump, striking the old gentleman Just above one of his ankles, and causing a clean break of the leg. Mr Flower was at once removed to the Cottage Hospital at Havelock, where he is progressing as well as can be expected. Dr. Williams thinks he will have the old gentleman about again in eight weeks. Mr T. Flower is 64 years of age. His many friends wish him a quick recovery. On Saturday at about half-past two Mrs 0. Smart, senr.^ passed away quietly after a painful illness, at the age or 73 years. The old lady being a very old settler in Marlborough was much respected through the district. Mrs Smart leaves a grown-up family of ten, six boys and four girls, to mourn her loss. Much sympathy is felt for them in their sad bereavement.
The Canyastown Rifle Club commenced practice again on Saturday. On Saturday night Mr A. Rutland's dance was well attended by the lovers of the. light fantastic, many visitors being in attendace/from Carluke.
