HORSE SALE

Dalgety and Company, Limited, report on their horse sale held on Saturday at the Central Horse Bazaar, Wynen Street. The consignment oi' draughts from 'Canterbury was a special good line of heavy shafters and useful farm horses. Conside?*ing the rough trip up tho Coast, the horses were offered in splendid condi- i tion. The demand was only fair, and after the above named lot was offered, there was no competition for local entries. The total offering , consisted of forty hor&es, ' mostly draughts; unbroken draughts were almost unsaleable, only one changing hands. Prices were as follows:—Chestnut gelding, 7 years, £41; black mare, 4 years, £35; bay gelding rising 3 years, £34; bay mare, 4 years, £45; bay gelding, 8 years, £36; heavy shafter, bay gelding, 7 years, £47; bay mare, aged, £25 10s. The offering consisted of some ot the finest stamp of draught mares and geldings offered locally for a long time; several of the unsold local draughts would have been eagerly competed for a year ago at £50 and' over. At this sale they were passed in without a bid, showing thai the demand is no!: so,great, being affected also no' doubt by the high" price of feed.
