A cablegram to vthe Christian science authorities here advises that Christian science was not the issue in the Raisler case; the charge was one of irregular medical practice. [A cablegram on Tuesday stated that Solomon Raisler, of New York, had been awarded £1500 damages against a Christian scientist whose prayers failed to cure him.] FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' MONEY. MELBOURNE, June 25. Representatives of the friendly societies . asked the Government to accept investments of the societies' funds, amounting to £1,700,000, at 4 per cent. ; Mr Bent replied that the Government would want no money for the next five years, and'then hot much. He would recommend Cabinet to give 3J per cent, on the money. AUSTRALIA'S DEFENCE. MELBOURNE, June 25. The Australian Natives' Association presented resolutions to Mr Deakin, adopted at the annual conference, including the encouragement of cadet, and rifle, clubs and compulsory military training. Mr Deakin, in reply, said he was convinced that without universal service Australia would: never havej an efficient system of defence.
