A very pleasant cerenlmy took place in the commercial room^. of the Masonic Hotel, Nelson, on Saturday evening' last, when the popular host Mr Harry Baigent was the recipient from Nelson and visiting friends oi a souvenir on the occasion of his birthday. Some twenty of the leading citizens and visiting friends were present, the health of the "Guest" being enthusiastically drunk, to the accompaniment of musical honours, highly eulogistic reference being made as to Mr Baigent's untiring courtesy to his patrons, his ever-ready support in the interest of sport, and his willingness at all times to support any movement likely to benefit the district.—Colonist. . ..'."• South Marlborough (says the Kaikoura Sun) joins with. Though he has earned the sweets of retirement from the "hurly burly" of public life, it is hoped that he will be nrevailed upon to serve the Dominion for, at least, a few years longer.
