"HELL UPON EARTH."
I ■ 4» A WARNING AGAINST SOCIALISM [from otjk correspondent.] I CHRISTCHURCH, June 13. When discussing Socialism at his meeting at Papanui last night, Mr Geo. Witty, M.P., said that he was quite disgusted at the conduct of the local Socialists at the Prime Minister's meeting on Monday last. He had never seen such a farce before—those wisps of humanity dancing and playing the fool in front of the ladies and others on the stage—and surely the people were not going to allow such men to rule the country! They said that they would make it heaven, but in reality it would be hell upon earth. Men who could not control themselves, who had no judgment and no common civility, were not fit to rule the country.-' - '. ■ .'•■ ■.• ,• ■■■'•■■ "You have, in the Prime Minister of this country," he continued, "a man whom all should respect, even if they do not agree with him politically; Surely he should have had common courtesy,- "but .for two men to get up on the platform and daricfe and; wave their arms about and flourish a bit ot: re^i ribbon was utterly disgusting. There wejre 3000 people, in the hall at the time, but the disturbance came from only 150. If the country is going to be ruled by such men as these, ■■■ then I say. 'God/help the country.' " j
