ROBBERIES FROM GOVERNMENT HOUSE. A FULL CONFESSION. [press association.] AUCKLAND, June 12. Frederick Sherlock Jones, who had been employed for ten months as third footman by Lord Plunket, wasteharged) in the Police Court to-day with the theft of cheques, cash and clothing, the property of Capts. Lyon and Hardy, A.D.C.s, ammounting to about £60. ' ■■ Capt. Lyon had placed an envelope containing cheques for £40 and 10s and about £8 15s in geld and silver in drawers, and subsequently discovered that the money was missing. Further investigation showed , that a quantity of clothing belonging to Capts. Hardy and Lyon was also miss--1 ing. " Jones confessed to the theft, and handed over the £8 15s, but stated that he had torn up the cheques and. ; thrown, thena away. He also admitted having stolen" £10 from the butler's office in April last. He made a clean , breast of the affair, and was committed for trial to Uhe Supreme Court.
