CLAIMS FOR DAMAGES. [PBESS ASSOCIATION^] . PALMERSTON N., June 13. In the Supreme Court this morning, counsel- for the plaintiff in the case Hamer v. Hornblow, proprietpr of the, Manawatu Herald, a claim for £501 damages for alleged libel, stated that the action'had been withdrawn, the defendant having admitted that the innuendoes complained of in the article were capable of being the construction placed upon them by the plaintiff, but were not intended. Details as to costs, etc., will be settled between the parties. The first case on Monday, morning will be W. J. Connor y. W. Waugh, a claim for £1031 damages arising out of a recent stabbing affray, when the plaintiff, who is a constable stationed here, w&8 stabbed by the defendant wliile arresting him on a charge of drunkenness. The charge is admitted, and the case comes before the jury for assessment. The action for damages in which D. Ross claims £1000 damages from the Manawatu Racing Club for alleged injury to character in refusing him a license to bet on the' Awapuni course on the second day of the Club's autumn meeting has been adjourned, sine. die.
