NEW ZEALAND'S SLUMS.

WHERE ARE THEY?

A MINISTER'S FRUITLESS

SEARCH

[from our correspondent.]

CHRISTCHURCH, May 30. "When walking through one of. .the streets of Wellington," said the Rev. Mr Flanagan this morning, "a friend said to me, 'I am sorry to have to bring you this way, but we have to hurry; these are our slums.' I told my friend that if he had' not enlightened me I should have concluded that the houses were the residences of the middle class. I have been looking for slums ever since I came to New Zealand, and I have never seen any yet that could possibly compare with those of the Old Land."
