The historical result of the war, giving a single flag and eliminating duality, imparted a powerful impulse to federation. The Imperial Government's attitude was essentially one of vigilance and encouragement. He hoped that Mr Botha would play a great part in the upbuilding of a loyal, free and united South Africa,'with a unity as complete as Canada's. \
