THE ANGELIC CREATURE.

The silvery moon looked down upon them as they stood upon the pier, ravenously devouring the love-light in each other's eyes. The wild intensity of his passion caused the blood to surge through his veins like the "Adriatic" in a storm, and the pal-

pitation of his heart shook the ponderous timbers of the pier to their foundations.

As he gazed upon her ethereal form he wondered how much an angelic creature could survive in such a vulgar and unsympathetic world. She looked so betwitchingly fair that it seined like desecration for him to touch her, and he longed to speak to her with a golden harp instead of the commonplace everyday language. Surely such a sweet mouth was never intended to drink anything but the nectar of the gods? Her " 'Becca," said a little voice at her side, " ma wants to know if you want tripe or liver an' onions for supper?" Then the young man's watch stopped, and a seagull fell into the water and was drowned.
