PICTON AND FOOTBALL.
TO THE EDITOR,
Sir,: —In your issue dated 30th April y appears a letter signed by "Old Footballer," which is really not worthy of reply, as apart from prejudice "writ large" there is nothing in it that merits attention. In order to translate the letter into obvious language I regret the necessity of pointing out to the public that it was evidently only thrown together haphazard, and to indicate a feeling of distrust and animus between the various clubs. In justice to the members of the Opawa Club I would say that the Central Club also strongly objected to the Picton ground. I feel sure that it is the genuine wish of the players in this district to take a stand this season against petty inter-club jealousy, also to play the game for the sake of ■the game, and endeavour to make football here a scientific exposition and a spectacle fit for ladies. It is only such unfortunate and misleading letters that reduced Marlborough football in the days when "Old Footballer" was playing to such a low level. Now that we have the material in the various clubs of sufficient calibre to bring Marlborough football into the first grade, I would advise "Old Footballer" to let sleeping dogs lie. I trust that he is an exception, and that the next time he is tempted to rush into print he will fortify himself with the facts. OPAWA.
