Captain Hunter, late of the Pateena and Penguin, went south on ' Thursday night to take charge of the " Rotolnahana for the run to Australia. ' Gaptain Manning was transferred from the Rotomahana to the Mararoa
at Lyttelton yesterday, and Captain Newton will retain command of the turbine steamer Maori. The Mararoa made her first trip in the LytteltonWellington service yesterday, after her return from Australia. The steamer Pateena is well-known for her consistent steaming performances. Lately, however, she has been making some more than usually smart passages in the Wellington-Picton-Nelson -service. Her Thursday night's trip from Picton to Wellington was especially fast, the time from "full speed ahead " to the first stop off the wharf being 3 hours 20 minutes, or just over 15 knots per hour. This is the more creditable when it is remembered that the Pateena is a 14| knot boat.
