ANGLO-NEW ZEALAND NOTES

LONDON, March 20,

EDUCATING ENGLAND

Mr P. A. Vaileis in England on a mission in connection with a scheme which is declared to be as important in its results as the Education Bill and the Licensing Bill rolled into one. The scheme is characterised as a fascinating one—fascinating beyond all else. Tersely and briefly, it is the converse of Cecil Rhodes' great Imperial scholarship scheme. Instead of having young me n who think, and who mean to count some day, coming from all parts of the world to England, Mr Vaile would have a similar I travelling scholarship established here, by which young men who not only think, but who write and talk as well, would be sent to all parts of the world, and then they would report -on what they had seen in every phase of social and civil existence. That in the rough is the scheme to which, Mr Vaile is understood to be devoting his time and energy to promote during his present sojourn in England.
