WAIRAU ROAD BOARD.
! The usual monthly meeting of the ! Wairau Road Board was held this morning. Present : .Messrs R. _F. Goulter (who -was re-elected. Chairman), G. Boyce, H. Hammond, W. Adamß, C..G. Teschemaker. ■ The Chairman thanked the members of the Board for his re-election, and congratulated them on all Being returned u-nopposed,' ■ - CAT POINT. - The Secretary of the North Bank Settlers' Association wrote asking the Board to erect a railing on Cat .Point as the place was very dangerous in its present condition- . it was resolved that the Inspector report at the next meeting on the matter. POISONING BIRDS. ' Mr Ci F. Whiteford wrote stating that he was willing to supply the Board with bottle poison known as •' "Death to Birds", at Is 6d and 4s per : bottle, according to size. ' •' Mr Hammond said he had no faith in the bottle poisoning. Mr Teschemaker spoke /in high praise of. phosphorus poisoning, but supposed it would be difficult to mix without a phosphoriser. - Finally if was resolved that the matter he held i over, Messrs Boyce' and Hammond "to report at ■ the next meeting. - ' TOP VALLEY BRIDGE. . The Inspector reported that, in regard to the proposed footbridge over the Top Valley- stream which he had been authorised to erect at a cost not exceeding £10, it was impossible to do the. work for less than about £45 3 as the stream- was rather wide at the point. It was pointed, out that the North Bank Association had asked for £10 towards ythe bridge previously. It was resolved that this amount be granted forthwith. GENERAL BUSINESS. It was resolved ; "That a team be obtained for a week's patching in the Wairau Valley." "That about three quarters of a mile of t road formation be done on the Summerlands Road." "That the road machine be lent to Mr, Teschemaker on the usual terms." ; ' TENDERS, v The tender of Edward Lane was accepted for road formation from, the Traverse to Blind River, the price being £188. ' The tender of D. Me Veen was accepted for a road metalling contract. , THE OMAKA BRIDGE. The Chairman submitted a report dealing with the X conference of the Omaka Road Board with the engineers over the above matter. (The details of the conference have been previously published in these columns.) On the motion of Mr Goulter, Mr Williams, the District Engineer, was accorded a vote of' thanks for the trouble he h,ad taken in "the matter, 'and it was resolved that a copy of the resolution be forwarded to the Roads Department. FLAX RIGHTS. The Chairman, reported that in regard to the flax rights which he had? been deputed to inquire into, he had been unable to carry the matter out in j its: entirely, but he had ascertained'! that the rights in ,two reserves be- I longed exclusively to'Mr Pollard. He i would make further inquiries in regard to the other reserves during the month. THE RATE FOR THE YEAR. | After a "consideration of the probable income and expenditure for the ensuing year the' rate was fixed at id in the £. •-,;■; -accounts. • The usual, monthly accounts were passed for payment.
