GREYMOUTH, April 30. i The New Zealand Poultry Journal's duck egg-laying competition closed here yesterday. The competition has been watched with some interest by poultry men throughout the whole of ] Australasia. Considering the many ) disadvantages to which €he birds have i been- subjected in the way of climate | and location, the ' records attained have been very * encouraging, and" prove that New Zealand poultry men own some excellent laying stock. Indian Runners. have taken all the prizes, and have showed their superiority over other breeds by laying a greatly increased number of eggs, in' some instances trebling those oi" Pekins and doubling Buff Orpingtons. / I The competition has been won by W. Knight, of The Hutt, with a total of 1214; the second prize goes to T. Douthwaite, of Auckland, toEal 1210; the third prize to D. Nimmo-Scott and Wareham, of Blenheim, total 1164;' 4th prize to T. West, of Feilding, total 1161; sth prize to Mrs Lucy, of Dunedin, to?al 1112; 6th prize to A. Penberthy, of Palmerston, total 1071. The remaining totals are as follows :<• -W.
