COPPER EN NEW ZEALAND.
Mr Sydney Fry has contributed an article to the December number of the "Engineering and Mining Journal" of New York on what he. describes as "a, discovery of copper ore which appears to be about .the most promising that has been made in New Zealand." : The lode is located at Mount Radiant, 14 miles south-east of Karamea, a settlement at the mouth of the Karamea River on the West Coast, about''4s ftiil# north of Westport. Outcrops of tHI ore have been found for a distance of five miles along the strike- and in the sides of the gorge of the Little Wanganiii River at a depth of 2000 feet below the outcrops first found. -''In short" says. Mr Fry, "it may be' described briefly as- an enormous lpw grade deposit with probably some bonanzas of ore in places; but it will take some prospecting on a large scale before it can be ascertained with certainty whether the grade is high enough to be payable on the average. There is abundant water in the locality. The New Zealand Mines Department is at present constructing a track to Mount Radiant from Karamea to facilitate prospecting operations." -An American mining syndicate has been inquiring about the property, with a view to working it,* and the property is now bemg inspected on behalf of Australian investors.
