AN IMPORTANT INITIAL.

Thirty-one words, a postscript to an old letter, hasjbeen admitted for probate of a will at Pittsburg (says the Springfield Republican) in spite of the fact that only the initial "S" is signed to it. In court it was proved by a thousand old prescriptions, that the late Dr William G. Simcox simply used the initial as his signature, and the court accepted it as such to the will, which disposed of an estate valued at 50,000 yiollars. Long before Dr Simcox died x h'e frequently made the remark : "I'll' keep- the people guessing for a long time what old 'Simmy' left." He has kept them guessing since his death in 1902, and they' are still guessing, for 5000 dollars in gold, that he received a few days> before his death, is still unaccounted for. Dr jßimcox in June, 1889, wrote a letter to his son Harry asking him to come home and spend the remainder of his life on the old place in Eliot borough, now a part of the city. He agreed to take care of him in his will. Harry finally gave up his business and did as his father asked. When Dr Simcox died, no will could be found, and the son has been looking for it ever since. Last week in going over some old letters written by his father to himself he found one to which this postscript was added: "Stay on the place. Take care of your mother. Sure, everything is yours when I am gone: Say nothing to anybody. Trust no one. I have lost faith in everybody." It was signed "S." Harry Simcox presented the postscript to the court, and it was promptly accepted as a will.
