Major Bloomfield succeeded in eyadmg the defenders' outposts, and attempted to capture Fort Takapuna, though he did not succeed. The umpire announced that honours were easy.
_ In the evening a cruiser got within tour minutes of the landing rear Fort Cautly, when it was discovered by a searchlight, and the guns of the fort were brought to bear upon it with success.
