DUMPING HOPS.

ALLEGED RUIN OF THE KENT INDUSTRY. : [press association.] (Received April-15, 11.40 p.m.) LONDON, April 15. Sir Gilbert Parker, Conservative Member for Gravesend, speaking in the House of Commons, directed attention to the ruin of the Kent hop industry by the dumping of 8000 tons of American hops into the United Kingdom in a rew weeks.

Mr Lloyd^George deprecated this statement as an exaggeration. He attributed the difficulties in the British industry largely to the development of labour-saving machinery and the use of hop substitutes. He jocularly suggested that the. brewers should show their patriotism by using : ohly British hops. He advised Sir Gilbert- Parker to await the result of the Select Committee's inquiry.
